ANEX is an ANFO explosive based on porous ammonium nitrate prills and oil, characterized by a relatively low detonation velocity and high gas volume. It has the advantage of completely filling the borehole, which provides good blasting performance. ANEX is manufactured from prills that offer good loadability but also make it relatively sensitive to water in the borehole.
HYDRANEX is an ANFO explosive with increased resistance to water. This has been achieved by incorporating components that cause the explosive to quickly form a protective gel when in contact with water.
